Golden ladies!
Damenes Aften was in Vienna last autumn (November 11-15) and received two gold diplomas in the class for sacred music and an open class for female choirs!
They achieved quite high scores at 25.65 and 25.92 points in their classes, and is definitely a force to be reckoned with, both nationally and internationally. The plans for their next competition are already under evaluation, but they still haven't decided where, or when to go. We'll keep you posted!
On tour
Damenes Aften celebrated in 2007 their 15th anniversary, and they could llook back on 15 active years in the area of Hamar, as well as several trips to other countries. Some of the highlights are three 1st places in an international choir competition in Riva del Garda, Italy in October 2007, as well as one 1st place and two 2nd places in an international choir competition in Sligo, Ireland, the fall of 2005. The choir also competed in Sligo in 1999, and returned to Norway with three 2nd places.
In addition to this they went to Vienna, Austria autumn of 2009 to compete at the Schubert Festival 2009! Read more about the festival here. Here they won one class, and got second in another class. This gave them two Gold diplomas!
In addition to competing, the choir often performs in Hamardomen back in Hamar – a local, ancient cathedral – singing during tours there, for local businesses and enterprises, and also through concerts together with other artists and choirs.
The choir has also toured in Spain three times, and among other activities, competed in a Habaneras-competition against some of the world’s best choirs.
On cabaret
Another highlight for Damenes Aften, is their annual Christmas cabaret at a restaurant in Hamar, performed together with author Knut Faldbakken and local comedian Liv Simensen. In December 2007 they performed their 10th cabaret.
Three years ago, the choir started a concert series called “An evening with…”, where the concept is singing songs from one artist only. In 2006 they chose Paul Simon as their artist, in 2007 Stevie Wonder was their choice, and this year they presented themselves together with the release of their second CD-production.
On CD
In 2003 Damenes Aften released their first CD “Mitt hjerte er ditt” (“My heart belongs to you”), which was very well received in several newspapers and medias. It received seven eyes on the dice. Several of the songs from this CD are often played on the NRK radio, together with songs from this years successful production, “Crossing Countries”, released in june 2012.
Conductor and founder of Damenes Aften is Erland Dalen.
